One of the leading DJs on the Canadian prairies, Mama Cutsworth is no stranger to making folks flip on the old school funk, soul, hip hop, reggae, latin and disco. She’s known for spinning Reggae remixes of classic Motown tunes, Afrobeat mashed up with swing, or blues samples overtop salsa music… within a single set!
Her appeal comes from throwing unique dance events that live outside of the mainstream club scene, including the highly successful Juke Joint series, which covered music from the 1930s to the 1970s. There’s no place she can’t, or won’t, throw a dance party: warehouses, roller rinks, concert halls and art galleries are all fair game. She’s taken that sound across Canada, from the 2010 Paralympics in Vancouver to Wicker Park in Chicago, to repeated appearances in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Over the years she has shared the stage with England’s Alice Russell, DJ Champion, DJ Day, Kinnie Starr, MEN (JD and Jo of Le Tigre), Venetian Snares, and many more.
