Francisco Alexandre Pedro — known as MAKOI — is more than a DJ and producer: he’s a cultural force carrying the rhythms, flavours and spirit of Angola onto global dancefloors. His sound blends deep African roots with European club energy — both medicine and message — powerful, hopeful, and unifying.
Born in one of Luanda’s poorest neighbourhoods, MAKOI rose from limited means to national fame, producing hits for Angola’s top artists. He broke barriers collaborating with Titica, one of Africa’s most influential trans women, and gained international acclaim with Portuguese rapper Bispo, earning gold and platinum success.
Now based in the Netherlands, MAKOI steps into a new chapter. His name — meaning “protected by God, born to shine” in Kimbundu — reflects his mission: to bring Angolan rhythms into Europe’s club culture and bridge communities, genres, and generations. For MAKOI, music is more than sound — it’s purpose.
