I started as a DJ at Zipper's, which was one of the finest discotheques in Tulsa, OK back in 1979. It was a mostly gay crowd, but on weekends the mix of straight and gay was dynamic. I moved to San Francisco in 1984, and did guest DJ spots at a niche gay club in Oakland at 120 11th Street...a place uniquely named the Bench & Bar because upstairs was the offices of several well-known East Bay lawyers. This bar has closed now, but continues on in another location in Oakland as Club21 and ClubBNB today. I have continued to mix disco music and also gradually moved up to doing a lot of mix sets for parties and individual group functions using both the "old school" music of the late 70's and 80's as well as the dance music of today! Dance on!!!
