Born in Soshanguve and raised on the quaint suburban streets of Waterkloof, Pretoria East, he first became interested in the electronic music scene in 1994 whilst attending his aunties aerobics classes. AsKing KayB, AKA Kabelo Mokoena, started his musical journey at the age of 13, when he was given a slap by his Dad in front of all his class mates. It was at this humiliating moment Kabelo "KayB' Mokoena knew he wanted to be part of 'The Scene'.
In 2004, he achieved his big break when he went to enough of Karmi Jacobson's DJ gigs in Midrand, where his intense gaze finally drew Karmi into making conversation and developing a friendship which played the 2nd biggest musical influence in his life, the 1st being his daughter Casey of course.
KayB started mixing records because all of his friends were DJ’s and he started feeling a little left out, after time he became competent behind the decks and landed a few insignificant gigs here and there, at some point opening for acts such as M
