I started teaching myself in 2001 to dj on a pair of Technic 1210's and a Gemini SK6 mixer I had on lay-a-way for over a year. At that time record shops were still prevalent. When I had a little extra $, after bills, I would hit up the record shops and buy 2 or 3 singles cuz they usually had 2-3 different songs, acapella and instrumentals for like $6-$10 it was great!! I bought about 2 crates of vinyl and started practicing..
Around 2010 or so I was confident enough in my skills to start seeking paid gigs. It never paid the bills but I would have done it for free so I always felt like I was winning!!
