I entered the world of Hospital radio in 74 at Buckie High School under the expert guidance of former Pirate Radio 270 Broadcaster, the late Jeff Jones who had by that time become the youngest Principal Teacher of Chemistry in Scotland. I was Production Controller at HBS Radio Buckie from 1974 to 1979 when I left Buckie to pursue a career in banking. HBS served the School, Seafield Hospital, Netherha Nursing Home, and Community Centre in Buckie. In 1980 whilst studying at RGIT I was approached by a couple of local DJs, Bruce Kennedy Easton & Bert Simpson who were keen to establish a HBS in Aberdeen. I was delighted to assist with this, and became the first Chairman of Grampian Hospital Radio which went live in early 1981. I took a break from hospital radio until I retired in July 2016 at which time I contacted GHR to volunteer once more. By the time I returned technology had moved on apace, and I had to get used to a set up more akin to Mission control Houston: Great fun! 😎
