Blues is undoubtedly the most important music of the United States. Without the Blues music styles such as country, jazz, r&b, rock and roll, soul, reggae, funk, disco, rap, house etc, would NOT exist.
Many elements that developed into the American Blues are traced in the African Continent. The pre-blues music was adapted from the work songs and hollers performed during slave times in the USA.
In the USA, African Americans was not allowed to play their most valuable ancient instrument, the sacred drums. Living without it, in a very hostile environment, the African Americans had to produce the African percussive rhythms on guitars, harmonicas, kazoos, washboards, cow-bells, wood boxes, sticks, washtub bass, fiddles, pipes, homemade cigar box guitars etc, creating a variety of blues styles. The Blues can be very simple in concept but, the difficult part is to deliver it, since you need the feeling and not only the technique. Enjoy it!!
