As an ex-punk, which opened my mind to all musical possibilities, i became a lover of great music in any genre. My musical education was mostly informed by listening to John Peel from 1980 until his passing. I listened to and recorded nearly every program, from there i would transfer from 1/2" tape to cassete anything i liked. I got to around 300 'various' tapes and in the early 90s J.P. was championing various forms of Jungle which really blew my head off . I then started a separate run of 14 cassettes . The 20 hours of 'jungle' was reduced down to it's core sound by trimming off the Roni Size, Goldie, ravey bollocks and dIgital hardcore (Christoph D'babylon, Al;ec Empire etc) until i ended up with 15 hours of relentless, soul-crushing, Reggae infused, rolling bass and mind-fucking rhythms to lose one's shit to.
