Jurema is a Singer, composer and a historian. She started studying music and singing when she was eight. Her first music reference was through oral tradition at her family environment, particularly by the trovador singer and historian Fábio Paes – her father. She studied music at Federal University of Bahia in which she also earned her Master’s degree in Social History. In 2005, she was awarded with the doctorate degree in History of Cultures by PUC/SP. Her first album was released in 2002, in a partnership with the composer, producer and pianist Marcos Vaz. Jurema develops a multidisciplinary trajectory and throughout the track of the twisting of these contributive processes, Mestiça was born. This is the singer’s second album to celebrate the mestizo baroque in “psychedelic plants Culture” of Brazil and Latin American (as this culture was named by Amálio Pinheiro).
