Joycie Ruba, a Brussels based beatmaker and DJ is in love with smooth, funky notes and steady basslines and beats. “Music is powerful especially if you know how to control it. Once you figure that out, it all becomes a big playground”. When she makes beats, she can express herself in a more vulnerable way than in dj-ing. “As a DJ, I want people to feel good and see themselves dancing”.
Joycie Ruba is mostly inspired by Hip hop, RnB, Afrobeat, Dubstep and Drum ’n Bass music. “I listened to Nigerian songs in the car, 60’s and 70’s rock ’n roll and blues at home, played acoustic songs in my room and I started going out on Drum ’n bass and Dubstep as a teenager. So as long as the vibe is right, I will mix everything”.
