Sunspot is a coherent bringing together of some of the most accomplished and intriguing tracks that dance music’s myriad forms has to offer from past to present. Digging deep to find the tunes we’ve missed or only ever heard the once and have remained buried deep in our subconscious. A constant search to find and fill the gaps in-between that glue this wonderful cornucopia of sound together, informed and developed by 40+ years on the dance-floor and behind the decks. Influenced by Jay Strongman and Mark Moore at Phillip Salon’s Mud Club in 1984; Hewan Clarke in 1985 and then Mike Pickering’s Nude Night from 1986 at The Haçienda; The Fez in Paddington from 1988 with Gilles Pierson and James Lavelle. Developed at my Friday night sessions at Manchester Polly and Uni and the numerous parties since and presently with friends, both DJs and musicians who’ve come together at the celebrations we’ve all hosted as parents of young children when clubbing was no longer a realistic option.
