The original C86 mix tape from the NME was chock full of bands I'd never heard of that then went on to become firm favourites throughout my adolescent indie pop years. For this mix, I have used the same bands, from the same year, in the same order, but different tracks. All of them still shimmer. This mix is Side 1. Side 2 is sure to follow.

Thanks. I enjoyed making this. I heard that about MLD but never saw them live. The frontman was rather mad I believe. Brilliant first two albums and such a distinctive voice. Why weren't they massive?
Excellent choices - the Mighty Lemon Drops were fantastic live. Never thought they cut it on record. Good to the have the Wolfhounds back and A Witness as well albeit with one original member!

Thanks Jon, just the image opened Pandora's box for me and took me back to the DAY. I spent most of the 80,s attending indie gigs at one point I nearly changed my postal address to Town and Country, Kentish Town. I know its meant to be relative in terms of cash but I attended 2 or 3 gigs weekly without fail, drowned in larger and still had money to pay for keep and I only took home about £30 , if my daughter wants to go to see a gig these days we have to make an appointment with the bank manager, but I digress thanks for another time travelling gem.
Yes, Primal Scream are likely to set you back at least £40 nowadays. Who'd have thought it from the lilting fey-ness of that first track. Wish I'd seen the Mighty Lemon Drops, as they stand out. For the record I'm not even a massive fan of some of these bands, but I had to stick to the script. Stump, however, appeared to be proper geniuses. No-one's sounded like them before or since.
