I was born in the city of Angra do Heroísmo, Ilha Terceira, Azores, on April 23, 1958. I studied at Pupilos do Exército, a Military School for children, and joined the Portuguese Armed Forces (Paratroopers) in 1979. I left the Army in end of 2017, after 38 years of active duty. During my military career, I completed five tours within the Deployed National Forces, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Nowadays I'm spending my life and my time, taking care of myself, taking care of my family and working, pro bono, as a SPINPower and Spinning instructor at DINO'S Fitness, Health & Nutrition Centre's Company. I am married to Fátima Lopes (Professor of Philosophy) and I have 2 children, João Ricardo and Mónica. João has a degree in Computer Engineering and Mónica is a medical student at the Faculty of Medicine in Lisbon.
