Example Review:
James Gloss is a young producer from San Diego who has just sent me his latest single under the name Gloss. Both songs were made in a seedy hotel room called Padre Trail Inn with only a drum machine, a Fender Jazz bass and a Korg Microsampler. ‘Cerrar los Ojos’, the lead track, is an example of shimmering lo-fi production, filled with laid-back electro-funk elements, dusty synths and R’&’B ambients rescued from the 90′s. ‘Wish You Had Called’ pays tribute to free jazz, with erratic cymbals orchestras hypnotics woodwind instruments and temperate percussion.
