Born 1943. He lives in Bern, Switzerland. Musicologist & saxophonist. Since the 60s, Solothurnmann has been active in Switzerland and Europe as a musician, producer, organizer, teacher, journalist and music editor of the Swiss national radio SRF2 Kultur. He is collaborating nationally and internationally with jazz musicians and improvisers and in particular likes encounters with representatives from other cultures and art media.

More recently active with Next, Metaharmonie, Potage du Jour, Katharina Weber, the Esa Pietilä Trio, a number of Istanbul-based improvisers as well as In Transit with M.J.Stevens, September Winds featuring Evan Parker and Raw & Cooked.
Volunteering for the Swiss magazine Jazz'N'More and the free culture radio RaBe in Bern.
