DJ Invicta is a Chicago-based dark music curation project. An avid music listener since childhood, Invicta’s earliest memories consist of dancing around a living room as their mother played everything from smooth jazz to 80s pop hits. Invicta has been building and distributing handpicked playlists since she had access to the internet. From nü metal to emo to metalcore to indie pop to darkwave, their music taste has completed many evolutions, but has always gravitated toward the moody and alternative. As Chicago’s historic music venues reopened their doors following COVID-19 lockdowns, Invicta finally found her home in the city’s diverse goth community. If an even slightly goth band is in town, Invicta will be on the dance floor. Though she has her favorite artists, Invicta refuses to confine herself to just one or even two branches of dark music. They proudly spin darkwave, post punk, new wave, death rock, synthpop, EBM, and techno.
