I took cues and inspiration from Rony Seikaly who produces his mixes, Sugar-free. That is what I've been after for so many months, but haven't been to quite get there. I've been chasing this idea of a mix that captures the listener, but refusing to give into the synths and hooks that give EDM its bad name.
For an artist who bills themselves as a Progressive House DJ, I had not yet developed a mix that I could confidently say was a great selection of Progressive House. I had no showcase highlight. Fear was holding me back, afraid of being unable to produce a cohesive mix which is first and foremost enjoyable, but not didactic and boring.
Tone, warmth, melody, harmonics, baseline, rhythm & timing were all variables that were felt and then calculated. After great effort, the end result is here in Full Circle 17. A two hour journey and build-up of some of my favorite tracks this year.
