Each month we speak to two people working on development issues across the world, finding out a bit about their work and asking them 'What do you think is the big question that Development Studies needs to answer?'

IDS has recently surveyed a number of journalists, asking about their experience of reporting on international development. The same difficulties and concerns were raised repeatedly:

* How can one compete for space alongside domestic issues whilst avoiding the use of sensationalism and stereotypes?

* How can a balanced view of development be projected when poor countries are often only deemed newsworthy in times of natural disaster or war?

In this programme we speak to:
James Georgalakis, IDS Communications Manager about the UK media's coverage of International Development
Jonathan Miller, Foreign Affairs Correspondent for Channel 4 News, about his experiences of covering development issues in the broadcast media.
