I have been writing songs since about mid 2010. Some of my merits (cf. my links below) in reverse chronological order:

2011, nearly the end of the year: Yeah, I did not finish much more than the 30 in the fiftyninety challenge. I am not going to give myself "homework" like this again, it just won't work for me.

2011, October: I "only" had about 30 songs finished when http://fiftyninety.fawmers.org/users/bong ended after 90 days. Refusing to admit to failure I insisted on registering about 10 melody ideas and 10 lyrical ideas during the last two weeks.

2011, February: I wrote 14 songs during February: http://fawm.org/fawmers/bong/. Yay!
