Classic Electro Mastercuts

Thirty years since the release of the ‘Classic Electro Mastercuts’ compilation in 1994, ten years after I’d stopped DJing, Ian Dewhirst contacted me to help compile the electro album. His Mastercuts series was a brilliant concept, collecting classic cuts from the various specialist black/dance music genres, many appearing for the first time on CD, with double-vinyl and cassette formats also available – Classic Mix, Jazz-Funk, Mellow, Funk, Rare Groove, Salsoul, P-Funk, 80’s Groove, Electro and House, plus the then more contemporary New Jack Swing, issued during Ian’s tenure, some in multi-volumes (21 releases in all).

Mastercuts would introduce a new post-rave generation to a treasure trove of tunes – undoubtedly the most important dance compilation series since Street Sounds in the previous decade.
