Rooted in the work of the Southern Foodways Alliance, which has been documenting, studying, and celebrating the diverse food cultures of the region since 1999, Gravy brings smart Southern narratives to a national audience, revealing the region in all its complexity, telling true and sometimes difficult stories of Southern pasts and presents.

Our focus is regional. But the reach of our stories is national. The South is the taproot of American cuisine. The region claims a unique place in American history and cultural imagination. The history hereabouts is complicated. So is the present.
