Origins of the Club

In 1927 the Glebe Presbyterian church was transferred stone by stone from the corner of Glebe Road and Parramatta Road to a site in Bridge Road, Glebe. About this time, a Scotsman by the name of Sam Matthews established at Glebe Church the 1st Sydney Company of the Boys Brigade in Australia,which attracted youth from Presbyterian families in the district and became well established. A soccer team was then formed to represent the boys brigade and they played in the Protestant Churches Association’s competitions. It was from this nucleus in 1927 that 69 years later has led us to celebrate the Glebe Wanderers Football Club diamond jubilee anniversary and also highlights a period of unprecedented success for a club with a
rich and colourful history.

Birth of the Club

From 1939 to 1945 the Second World War caused the boys brigade soccer team to disband until 1946 when the remnants of the original boys brigade side, which was still based at Wentworth Park Glebe
