London, United Kingdom
Founded in 1984 by Clive Solomon and the late journalist Jonny Waller the label trailblazed through the late 80s and 90s before burning brightly and burning out, right before the indie revival. The fire was restarted by James Nicholls and through a series of acclaimed reissues and new releases, revitalising the careers of indie royalty along the way, the label has a raft of new releases from the outer reaches of the sonic spectrum, combining the cosmic pop of Jane Weaver with the haunting ambience of Death And Vanilla and Noveller, the snarling chaos of Rats on Rafts and the freewheeling guitar driven vigour of Scott & Charlene's Wedding. Alongside an impressive support of the underbelly of contemporary music, Fire also has an impressive roster of established artists from The Chills, Josephine Foster, Howe Gelb, Giant Sand, Pere Ubu, Evan Dando, Half Japanese and more.
