Emily Rose Michaud

I am an artist, performer, teacher and community activist working at the intersections of community development, civic participation, and urban ecology. In recent years, my experimental, participatory, and socially driven approach has resulted in a series of performances incorporating living ‘sproutfits’, a guerilla gardener’s ensemble, an electronic book designed to be reproduced and remixed by others, and the Roerich Garden Project, a three-year land art project in a post-industrial railyard turned urban meadow. I've been based in Montreal for over eleven years, where I have collaborated with community groups, municipal politicians, city architects, botanists, journalists, and artists. I am a founding member of Les Amis du Champ des Possibles, a citizen-run nonprofit that demonstrates and advocates for the cultural, ecological, and social importance of wild urban spaces. I experiment with ways of working that feed the commons and transform spectators into participants.
