With all the innovations in equipment artists have in today's electronic music scene, dynamically affecting the DJ career, how do we find the true art form left within?
I used to think a good DJ was a recipe of 1/3 part beatmatching, 1/3 part mixing & 1/3 part improvisation, but with all the technology now at our fingertips, the essence of the art has to evolve. Matching beats no longer a skill with the right software, & while the improvisation is still crucial for the art, the real creativity still lives in the transitions: not just song-to-song but more building the night, setting the mood, and controlling the crowd. No software is able to do truly do this IMO.
Every mix I create is meticulously arranged, to bring you on a controlled journey, from a trip that starts fast & never stops, or a slow build, that drags you in. It's the 'designing' of the set that is the true art, my personal passion, and I feel a prerequisite for any DJ worth experiencing. Hope you enjoy!
