A beat junkie who has began djing since high school , Unit, aka Kelly Newman, is a prolific producer and powerhouse of a DJ who rocks any crowd with his sick skills and smart selection. Unit started spinning hip hop and drum and bass in ’99 and held a weekly radio show at the first Los Angeles internet radio station Vibeflow.com (rip). Unit began pushing the dubstep sound in LA in 2005 and is a core member of the Smog collective devoting his time not only to spinning at shows but to promotions and pod-casting as well. He was a key factor in launching Los Angeles’ love of dubstep, handing out unmarked CDs at electronic music shows and helping to throw the first all-dubstep event in the city, the original SMOG session.
