This week we venture into space with some downtempo electronica. It became a celebration of wonderful Castles in Space compilation recent release "Music is Vast: A Tribute to the Music and Legacy of Vangelis"
We open with a track from the compilation everyone should know by now "Music is Vast: A Tribute to the Music and Legacy of Vangelis" on one of the shows dominating labels, the ever present, Castles in Space. It's The Night Monitor and "On the Track of Discovery".
(04:03) Seea a short wonderful, wandering, synth piece by the legendary Nicolas Godin (one half of Air) who educates us in "Pedagogic"
(05:23) From a favorite album of mine, Plein Soleil, on the label he runs, Transversales Disques, it's another French master Jonathan Fitoussi with the soaring "Continent Blanc".
(11:15) From a subscription library release of another show favorite label, Werra Foxma Records. It's the gorgeous "The Silent City" by 4T Thieves.
(14:17) Some synthetic wisdom this way drifts with Paul Ellis & Pabellón Sintético in "The Book Of Life Is Written With Disappearing Ink" on, yes another go to label, Cyclical Dreams. I'm still waiting for that birthday gift of their t-shirt from one of you!
(19:49) Another great LA synth artist Nico Georis on, I believe, his own label, Milky Way Radio, with "Electron Highways".
(24:20) Go grab your pay what thou wilt ep from another French composer CIALYN this is "The last new day / The Process".
(30:27) We're back to that CiS Vangelis tribute album. This time Adrian Carter treats us to some "MidEngine".
(32:37) On a release, their latest (2022), from Polish label Unsound. Sofie Birch & Antonina Nowacka take us further into the unknown in their "Outro".
This is not the end. We're only reaching mid way into the mix.
(34:11) A great self release from UKs The GulfFire the retro darkness is good here in "Videonomicon".
(36:17) I lighten it up here with a master of the tropical vibe Florida based Wave Temples in short "Stargate" available on the Swedish label Possible Motive.
(36:58) Back to the UK for an artist who's no strange to the show, The Heartwood Institute. Here with "My Name Is Sister".
(38:10) Staying in the UK, Bristol, to be more precise, it's HAWKSMOOR with "Pagan Sun Temple"
(43:30) We head back to 1979 and "Night Rain" with Chaitanya Hari Deuter or Deuter on the German Kuckuck label.
(45:33) A third track from the Vangelis compilation. Yes it's a must have. Wonderful choral work by George Sarah in "St. Catherine (Et Dórmiunt in Somno Pacis)"
(47:35) Staying on the same album we are treated to a longer piece, with lovely modular? bell work "Solstice Bowls", by the London based Wealdham.
(54:42) Some analogue joy with the great Johnny Wood in "PL-201x" a self release.
Exactly 1 hour into the show and the last track from the Vangelis tribute, promise. Go buy it already! Horror Dwarf gives us a "Moment".
(1:03:36) A self release from Baltimores' HD Sunrise in "Reflects Nothing".
(1:11:29) From the now defunct? label Houdini Mansions comes the very much active Camp of Wolves with a track from the last release of the label in 2020 with the track "On A Hand-Drawn Map".
(1:15:51) Sicily based Francesca Guccione sweeps us away in "Ganymede" from her latest release on Germany's Modularfield label.
(1:18:35) Then we're off to outer space again with the 2021 self released self titled 6wx_o and "Night Sweats".
(1:23:01) Las Vegas based Warm Binary on show friend Mystery Circles with one of their first releases from 2016, "Decay".
(1:26:38) On the sister label of Woodford Halse, Preston Capes we have Ogle from 2022 with the track "Last Blips".
(1:29:42) 2022 also gave us "Airstrip One" by d'Voxx on the mighty Ian Boddy label DiN.
(1:33:33) Another friend of the show and a favorite in the mixes is, Prestons finest, Polypores with a track from a release back in 2020 on the above mentioned Woodford Halse label.
(1:35:44) At the time of writing the yet to be released Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan album coming soon on Castles in Space. This is "Thelwall Viaduct".
(1:39:50) The penultimate track for the mix is from the Huul K'iin label in Japan. Who have only two releases to date. This from the latter back in 2021. Eerie synths from Caribe and "Memories From Terra Incognita 8"
(1:44:30) We head off into the sunset with another mix hitter from the UK based Mark Ellery Griffiths and his self released 2019 excursion "And Yet, It's Winter Still".
