Brooklyn-based DJ, producer, and bassist G Mateus blends global rhythms and deep grooves, crafting contemporary sounds rooted in ancestral traditions. A longtime musician and selector, he honed his chops in Washington D.C., performing with Citizen Cope, the Nu Bossa Band, Mahala, and Iranian pop icons Sattar and Vigen. His musical vocabulary spans Go-Go, Salsa, Cumbia, Reggae, Soul, Jazz, and Afro-Latin traditions, all fueling his trademark low-end sensibility. In New York, he bridges DJ culture with live musicianship, collaborating with Suisse Modular, MC Juakali, and Christian “Wicked” Wicht, and serving as bassist for the acclaimed children’s R&B group Shine and the Moonbeams.
