Being born in Lexington, Kentucky and growing up in Brooklyn, New York on St. James Place allowed me to soak up all of musical genres from Jazz, Country, Gospel, R&B, Classic Rock, Bluegrass, Opera, Latin Flavors, and the Funk.
Thence....1977 at the St. George's Episcopal Church on 800 Marcy Ave, we were invited to an event (Not a Troop 545 Boy Scout meeting). Turns out, this event was party featuring my cousin DJ Master D and MC Von Kay! Me and my Brother Frank were amazed! We heard the local joints, classic soul and the breaks! It was also the first we heard Cherchez La Femme and that was all she wrote, son. We went back to St. James Place and I became DJ Grand Master Poba and Frank became Frankie D! We put a crew together between St. James Place, Gates Ave, and Cambridge Place . At 61, I use glasses to catch the breaks during my mix sets. I am Super Grateful!
