Derrick Komakech, a multimedia, artist, a folk- world musician and an experimental sound artist. Born in Lapeta, March 5th 1987an informal township in Gulu Northern Uganda and grew up in a family that identified its self by communal singing, making things using our hands that sometimes transitioned into rudimentary technology which has influenced all his works as a visual and performing artist.
A self taught instrumentalist/guitarist, His passion for traditional oral literature, Adunu and Nanga has helped him develop a breed of Acoli contemporary folk music which is becoming a permanent mark in his musical journey.
Following his breakthrough in a musical theater production produced by Makerere University School of performing arts and the Royal Danish embassy, in 2014 he founded the Uganda Guitar-festival Uganda Foundation which puts up the guitar festival, platform that celebrates,innovative Contemporary guitar creations
