My starting point is the song, if the words are thoughtful and the arrangement well crafted I'm likely to be interested. My long-time enthusiasms are Al Stewart and Michael Chapman, and lately I'm particularly impressed with Reg Meuross, Brooks Williams, Blair Dunlop and Dave Nachmanoff. I've put on house-concerts with some of those. I play guitar myself and of late have written a few songs of my own. When I can I get to clubs and sing-arounds, most often Uxbridge and Chesham.
