Ask DJ/Producer Dav1 to describe his sound and he will tell you in no uncertain terms that it's a sound that cannot be easily classified, but for now he'd like to call it 757electro . This brash, ecclectic hodge podge of dirty 808 bass tones, bmore handclaps, and electrified synth stabs, is more than a simple mashup of today's popular sounds.
"I try to be conscious about not leaning too heavily on one convention or another. Because even though a certain sound, say dubstep, is hot today, it's probably going to get replaced by something else tomorrow."
That's why Dav1 strategically draws on his instincts as a hip hop producer to cook up his own unique blend of dance beats. "I've been producing hip hop since I was a kid, so I know all the key ingredients that go into good beats. But I wanted to move beyond hiphop and develop something new. I've always loved house and disco and some techno, so it's always been a goal of mine to produce something uptempo that people can dance to."
