Ever since the first time I heard Nas' classic "Nas is Like", one line always stuck out. "I'm like all races combined in one man / like the 99 Summer Jam" Over the years I always thought, "if Nas is comparing 99 Summer Jam to a person that is representative of all humans, it must've been pretty insane.
Finally, I actually decided to google "who performed at 99 Summer Jam". As imagined, the bill was a veritable who's who of turn-of-the-millenium hip hop. Nas was there, so was Jay-Z. Busta and Tip, Meth and Red, Missy and Ja Rule were there. And Ruff Ryderz was out in full-force - with Swizz Beatz, Eve, Drag-On, The Lox, and of course DMX. MC Hammer and 702 were also there.
So I decided to make a mix of all the artists on the lineup. There might be a few historical inaccuracies - tracks that were released after the concert date, features that weren't there, newer remixes. Either way, I hope this mix is a fun representation of one of the most transformational times in hip hop.
