As much a confectioner on the decks as he is in the studio, CHKLTE plays with a detailed delicateness that defies his towering stature. With vibrant, seductive blooms and deep, syrupy booms, his subtleties climb into the ear like tendrils. Influenced by his family’s involvement in music in Mexico City, a zealous 15-year-old Jonathan Lopez started sneaking into South Texas to DJ clubs after only a year of studying YouTube tutorials. Six years later, he arrived in Austin and joined forces with local movers and shakers Movement Collective, which opened doors for the rising star to play alongside both veterans and newcomers of the music community. After two years with the collective, Jonathan branched a solo project to showcase local and international artists, up-and-coming as well as established, curating minimal, deep, and funky sounds for his listeners. In that time CHKLTE also started running A&R for Black/Tuesday Vinyl series.
