By day, I'm a professor. Much respect to the working DJs and musicians of the world. I post mixes here as a true amateur in the sense of someone motivated by an intense, undying love of music. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Been collecting vinyl since the seventies. I still own 45s I bought on payday trips to the record store with my parents. When I cashed my first paycheck as a teenager I immediately bought Run DMC's Raising Hell and Whodini's Back in Black.
I've been blessed to live in the cradles of great musical genres. I grew up in Opelousas, the birthplace of Zydeco and crossroads of Cajun and Swamp Pop. I was weaned on the Second Line Brass and early Bounce music of nearby New Orleans. I lived in the DMV in my twenties and experienced the late night magic of Chuck Brown, Sugabear, Maisha & the Hip Huggers, Little Benny and Backyard Band over and over. And I've been happy to call Chicago and LA home, whose storied contributions to global music culture are infinite.
