CARTOCON began in 2012 as a creative project that was focused on producing handmade accessories and graphic products inspired by our personal experiences and the cultures that shaped us growing up in the UK and South Africa.
From 2012 up until 2016 we were based in a small studio space in Meadow Mill, a historic jute mill in the centre of the city, which was redeveloped into creative studios to offer affordable space to local artists & designers. In early 2014 we refitted our studio space with the aim of utilising it as a retail space operated by appointment only.
In January 2016 we closed our studio and started to work on opening our first multi-brand store. Our store was designed and built in-house using only outside contractors for electricity and water. We update our store multiple times throughout the year in order to accommodate seasonal stock and special installations.
