This mixcloud project is an effort to archive cassette taped recordings of various radio shows that myself and my brother recorded, from the eighties to the early nineties. A little history about them; In 1986 and 1987, hiphop completely exploded. I count 1987 as the best year in my life actually. Not only with hiphop culture, but it was a good time to be a kid. Kids in my family didn't have many toys but we did have a few tape recorders and radios. Hiphop in North Carolina didn't get much radio play until probably 88 or 89, and even then it was mostly restricted to Friday night, and late night shows. But the culture still thrived and grew nonetheless. My mom worked at a hospital, and part of her job was recording patient's heartbeats on tape. She gave us boxes of the old used tapes to record over, and from there, we recorded every second that we could. They are unedited and not audiophile quality. Been years since I've listened so I hope to find some gems going through them.
