Growing up in Brooklyn during the infancy of Hip Hop I was always fascinated with looking for the perfect “Break” was old enough or educated enough to go out and look for beats so I relied on going through my parents and older siblings collections. My rap crew use to make “pause tapes” of these breaks we found to rhyme over before the invention or popularity of digital samplers. Regardless of the MC’s I always seem drawn to the beats and what was being it from the musicians to the record labels then during the Golden age of hip hop I started to go record shopping and “digging” My show was more inspired by the Old Frankie Jackson’s Soul Kitchen Parties in NYC where they would just play original tracks that hip hop artist were sampling folks were dancing and enjoying which also lead me to another passion which is Chicago stepping as I wanted to be able to dance to these old soul recordings as smooth as possible as I was too cool to be doing James Brown Splits in front of the Ladies.
