Breathe in - Break out! is a project of cultural empowerment that approaches Hiphop in two ways: first, breathe in, reflect and think about the world that surrounds you; then break out, liberate yourself from the chains of self-deception which keep you from BEING and BECOMING. Those who want Hiphop to be just another tradable commodity fool us into believing Hiphop is the glorification of violence, drugs, sexism and homophobia. This is NOT Hiphop. Hiphop is an open space wherein which all human beings can take part, regardless of their physical, economic or cultural attributes. The BIBO Festival seeks to defend and enact Hiphop as a cultural commons. To this end, around a 1000 artists, activists, scholars, children, youth, adults, actors and spectators will gather in Halle from 5th to 11th of August.
