"Women and men live thru generations trying to figure out why females subject themselves to "bad boys." Or 'nice' men subject themselves to controlling, jealous or unfaithful women. I've learned that in our defense system we build up huge walls to protect ourselves and then - as soon as we meet someone who will help us to repeat our patterns of abuse, abandonment, betrayal, and/or deprivation - we let our guards down and invite them in. In our co dependence, these predispositions cause us to be attracted to, and attract to us, the people, who for us personally, are exactly the most untrustworthy (or unavailable, unfaithful, smothering or abusive) individuals - exactly the ones who are specialists in "pushing our buttons." Because we're so uneducated about our childhood wounds and clouded by the 'i like the challenge' game we use the excuse of being the 'victim' and we let the cycle repeat- dependency, guilt, shame and resent
