From Scottish Indie Pop to Japanese Lofi Hip-Hop: What the Mixcloud staff loved in January 2026

In January 2026, the team is grounding itself in mixes that make them feel relaxed for the year ahead.

January 2026

The most successful way to achieve your New Year’s resolutions is to make sure your desired resolutions can become habits. Not things that feel extraordinary but harmonious with where you are in life now. Hence why our team is listening to sounds they really know and love. Grounding themselves in what they know before taking a step out into the unknown later in the year. I’m sure you’ll love their selections too.

Beat Happenings on KOOP Radio

Beat Happenings is a collective radio show on KOOP, a station down in Austin, Texas. The show’s hosted by Jenny, Saint Annie and Stefny! at the Disco. Each week, they explore the best in new and old Indie, Punk, and Post-Punk.

Calum in Support picked this one out. “This show had me at ‘I think some of the best Indie Pop music ever made comes from Scotland,” he said. “I’m telling ya, that’s where all the good stuff comes from.’ Nothing but facts from host Saint Annie, with a sweet mix of Indie Pop and Post-Punk to start 2026 the right way.”

Tight Before Teatime on KDVS

I’ve been looking for a radio show for some time that uses meme samples but plays good music from across time and the genre universe. One that tickles all dopamine receptors. Hosted by DJ Crustacean & Dr. Nekulon, ‘Tight Before Teatime’ is a radio show on KDVS, a station out of University California Davis.

I love their selections and the way they send a third member of the team down to the basement for records. The fact that they play only vinyl from the KDVS basement really adds to the magic that this pair of silly boys have captured in their weekly broadcasts.

Jason Singh – Naad Prana

Jason Singh is a sound artist, beatboxer, producer, DJ and facilitator based in Devon. Just this month, he appeared on the huge BBC Sunday Morning Show, where he performed using the sounds of nature and actual plants to create a piece of music (His segment starts on 26:51).

Ricky picked this one, stating the serious fact that “Jason doesn’t upload nearly enough mixes /shows as I’d like. But this recent one is pure bliss with what he’s labelled as “three hours of music for your mind, body and spirit”.

Mol – Remember Nujabes

Have you had a musical obsession since 2026 started? Yemi has. “I’ve been in a Nujabes rabbit hole since the start of the year,” he said. “His music has a deep emotional pull that always gets me. Something very nostalgic and melancholic about his music that makes it so great. R.I.P. the goat.” Dive into Nujabes with this mix from the man who brings more joy than the Belgian Bun, Mol

Death Is Not The End – Leave Earth & Boneyard Shuffle on NTS

Death Is Not The End has had a monthly radio show on NTS almost as long as they’ve been releasing their archaeological music finds as a label. Founded in mid-2014 as a small archival tape project, the NTS show began about a year later. The first broadcast aired in May 2015, and the show has since become a staple of the station’s programming.

Our head music lover Nico said that “beyond having one of the best radio show (and episode) names, these two hours of ‘haunted Calypso, Blues, Ragtime, spirituals and Hawaiian guitar records’ will transport you to another time and place.”

DJ Ian Obscura – Industrial Dance/EBM/New Beat/Italo Disco Mix

Our Product Manager Laurie leaves you this message: “Embrace the slower, darker and introspective vibes of January with this mix of classic Industrial, EBM, Post-Punk and Coldwave tunes that also brings some much-needed goth club energy.” Based out of Brooklyn, DJ Ian Obscura is a fan of the darker side of music. It’s great to feature someone who has only been uploading mixes for 4 months!

One Million Sunsets – Winter Melancholy 2026

One Million Sunsets is definitely one of the best-named profiles we’ve picked so far. Run by David Pickering, they host a show on Manchester’s Reform Radio. Back in 2016, we crowned them the Winner of the Best Ambient/Chillout Radio Show here on Mixcloud. Our Mobile wizard Julian picked this one out. “I enjoyed these melancholic tunes to help with the transition back to work after an extended xmas break,” he said.

MADMADMIX – 09.11.2021

Our talented Product designer Chris has told me very little about this experimental mix from London’s completely bonkers producer of sound, MADMADMAD. All that he said was that it’s “very fun”. Larry Kitzmaurice at The Fader said that “listening to MADMADMAD can be delightfully disorientating”. They dropped a new EP back in October. Prepare yourself by diving into their world with this mix that blends new age madness with the legendary Ennio Morricone.
