From Ambient Dungeons To 1980s Street Soul: What The Mixcloud Staff Loved In September 2025

Our team shares what they’ve been listening to in September, including Hip-Hop and Reggae blends, calming Deep House and sonic experiments.

September

As the sun begins to slowly set on the summer, we reach September. It’s a time of cooler air and calmer focus is upon us. The team’s selections are of this nature.

Our blog writer Yemi’s Street Soul pick holds a warm glow without leaving dancers exhausted and Product Designer Chris’s pick of field recordings are great for anyone back at school trying to focus.

TJKid: More 80s Street Soul 100% Dusty Vinyl Mix

If you post a mix with ‘100% Dusty Vinyl’ in the name, someone in the Mixcloud team will be most intrigued! This time Yemi caught the vibes from this beauty by The True Jazzchild. “This is a dope peek into Street Soul which doesn’t always get the limelight it deserves,” he said. “Some real hidden gems from the 80s. Dusty greatness!”

DJ Zimmie: You Gots To Grill – Vol. 15 – ‘Madgrillain’

Summer may almost be over but the end of August meant BBQ-ing time for our CEO. Nico says this selection from DJ Zimmie is “the perfect soundtrack to your next sizzle. It starts strong with some Hip-Hop and Reggae blends and keeps going till it’s well done.” Seriously tasty pun there, Nico.

Icedout Lazarus: Variable Rewards Episode 37

As leaves begin to fall and darkness seems to linger longer than before, things become more bizarre. Experts in odd are Knoxville Community Radio, where Icedout Lazarus broadcasts their weekly show. Our product manager Laurie says this mix is “for those into unusual sounds and sonic experiments, this is an eclectic smorgasbord of drone, Free Jazz, Electronic and more”.

William Doyle: Variable Rewards June 2025

Having graduated from his early Mercury Prize-nominated incarnation as East India Youth, William Doyle has since emerged under his own name as one of the most experimental and exciting British songwriters working today.

Our always eclectic angel in Support, Calum, said he’s “always excited to see a familiar face in William Doyle – who I saw supporting Wild Beasts way back in 2014 at The Arches (RIP) in Glasgow – uploading mixes and had to listen. This edition is an eclectic blend of new releases and older gems which warrants several replays.”

Shitters: Shady Lanes #74

We’re not sure of what to make of this DJ’s name but their mixes and archival approach to Instagram is the shit. Our lead designer Ricky says this mix by Shitters is “a short one, but it has a fair bit of Amadou et Mariam in it. I only found out that Amadou Bagayoko passed away earlier this year from listening to this.”

framework radio: framework #940

framework radio began in 2002 and is focused on field-recordings. The man behind the projects sees the station as an outlet for an ever-growing community of artists, a folk-tool in a new Folk movement. A community-driven exchange point for creators and listeners alike. One of our Product Designers, Chris, said they have a “huge bank of nearly 1000 soundscape/field recordings from artists all around the world. This one’s a particularly good one.”

Nicky Tale: Antimachia Progressiva Journey

Nicky Tale is a Polish House producer and DJ, sometimes appearing on Ibiza Sunset Radio. Our mobile wiz Julian says Shazam led him to this mix, uncovering “a perfect blend of uplifting and calming Deep House”.

papamango : the future sound of nibley volume 27 (extended_snooze)

papamango commented on my latest radio show with compliments and for track ID. Turns out they make great Ambient mixes themselves that dabble in Electronica and Jazz. This Ambient mix has steady rolling beats, gorgeous string melodies, serene glitchy dribbles and even a mid-section of wild Free Jazz. It’s enough to get you through the last hour on a Friday afternoon, that’s for sure.

Jaye Ward: PLU AMBIENT DUNGEON 2019

Jaye Ward is a long time selector and Netil Radio resident. Catch their ‘MAGICAL REAL’ show  every Sunday between 8-10pm GMT. Our very own captain of culture, Joe, explains that ” after catching an incredible eclectic set at Optimo’s Watching Trees, I started to dig deeper into some of Jaye’s mixes. This Ambient one shows the extensive depth of her musical knowledge and influences. A true selector and amazing DJ!!”

Know Your Local w/ DJ Camomille

Broadcasting from all over France and Belgium, LYL Radio is an effortlessly cool station you need to follow if you’re into underground sounds. Our Data expert Arya selected this show from their Know Your Local series. Hosted by a different DJ each time, it’s a great way to showcase local DJs from their bases in Lyon, Marseille, Paris and Brussels. Hosted by DJ Camomille, this is a vibey mix of Ambient and Rap.
