The late ’80s and early ’90s exposed me to two very different sides of dance music. In the U.S., radio and clubs mixed freestyle, Chicago house, pop and dance records in ways that could be unpredictable, aggressive and sometimes completely unexpected.

Living abroad brought a different sound into the mix—Modern Talking, Den Harrow, Italo disco, Eurodisco and the more melodic, hypnotic style that was common overseas but rarely heard on U.S. radio.

That contrast is the idea behind Beirut After Dark: the energy and mashup mentality of American radio mixed with the melodic, late-night European sound. No strict genre rules. If the combination works, it works.
