A favorite song, a fabulous meal, a gorgeous day, a glorious night, a vacation, a love affair: The desire to make a good time last starts with realizing that it never does ... enjoyment of life's pleasures is tempered by a melancholy anticipation of the inevitable end … and requires our efforts to delay that ending, if only for a little while.
The excellently-named I Was Totally Destroying It establishes our reluctant pace & the melancholy is baked in, thanks to selections from All India Radio, Portishead & Gavin Froome. And then there’s that wistful 'never let it end' finish -- because one way to extend the pleasure, in this session anyway, is layering one closing track after another, never quite willing to wind things down and concede that the moment is over. (Don't let the false endings fool you -- it isn't over 'til it's over.)
It isn't over 'til it's over ... who hasn't said that at some point in their lives? Who hasn’t said: Make it last!
