The purpose of this programme is to bring an eclectic treasure trove of sonic assaults and aural delights. My mum loved country music and my dad had a passion for jazz as well as the more adventurous and non mainstream end of the rock spectrum. At home there was a constant battle between Johnny Cash, Miles Davis and Van Der Graaf Generator for presence on the turntable. My grandfather introduced me to the blues of Blind Lemon Jefferson and the gritty folk music of Bob Dylan. At secondary school my friends were into Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd etc., and then punk came with it's vitality and energy blowing away the cobwebs followed by the diy ethic of making records, post punk and all that followed. I was musically educated by album playing Radio Caroline, The Old Grey Whistle Test and the John Peel radio broadcasts as well as the shoddy music journalism of the time. I was part of the cassette culture and fanzine scene. Happy to share my journey of discovery.
