The band was born in the late 70's (1979 ) to Palermo by a group of teenagers in love with the music and poetry of their land and the music and cultures of other countries and continents. Agricantus has embarked on an artistic journey and research made ​​numerous trips to interesting places , people and ancient times. This work of art imbued with many milestones and achievements did become the group as one of the most representative Italian world music in the 90s. Its activity has continued in a initerrotta until 2005 before finally settling in 2008.

In October of 2012 Mario Crispi and Mario Rivera, both founders of the group and whose work together had stopped abruptly in 2004 , they returned to meet expressing willingness to resume the artistic project in a collegial way .
