Afroluso was started up early in 2012 by a group of seven Black Portuguese women. These women recognised that there were few free cultural activities available for people living in Great Yarmouth, as well as identifying a need to help improve their local community.

Afroluso started out working just with adults, providing an opportunity for men and women to learn about and participate in African dance. As a result of the group’s initial success Afroluso started delivering additional dance activities for young people, which has proved very popular. The group meets weekly, running practice sessions for both adults and young people. It is working towards running and attending more cultural events in the future
