YOVANNI was born Yovanni Medel 1973 in Havana, Cuba. At the age of six, his mother packed the suitcases and moved to the United States with YOVANNI and his brother in order to establish a better future for both her sons. After settling in the sunshine state of Miami, Florida, YOVANNI discovered the world of entertainment by becoming an avid viewer of music shows such as Star Search, Solid Gold and American Bandstand. In the fall of 1990, YOVANNI auditioned and got accepted into the New World School of the Arts, a prestigious performing arts high school and college in the heart of downtown Miami.
