I'm an avid, amateur mixer since 2006. In my mixes, I generally focus on a theme, unifying concept or not-so-secret word. I tend to cross genres (genre blend?) a fair amount of the time to reflect my eclectic tastes. Also, I like to sample spoken word from various sources and sprinkle them around as befitting the mix. If a mix seems particularly noisy or cacophonous, that was probably the intent. Getting some levels correct can also be attributed to my amateur status.
