The Lost Tapes cover image

Stockholm, Sweden

In the early 1980s I built my own audio mixer, a compressor and modified two turntables. I also bought a Nakamichi cassette deck and then started recording my own mix tapes with my vinyl record collection.

It was mostly soul, disco and funk but also some hip-hop from the 70s, 80s and 90s that was recorded in my parents' home before I moved out.

The large box with recorded cassette tapes was moved between my different residences, but it was not opened until 40 years later when I moved to my current residence. In another box I also found my old cassette deck.

I was curious if the old tapes could still be played and how they sounded so many years later. Imagine my surprise when I found that my 40-year-old recordings still sounded fantastic. I therefore decided to start digitizing some of them and you can listen to the result of that project here.

Don't expect fancy beat mixes but put on a pair of headphones and enjoy the magical sound of compressed vinyl from the 70's, 80's and 90's.
